IRON MAN has muscled its way to the top of the global box office, taking in an impressive $96.8 million (GBP48.4 million) in its opening weekend (02-04May08).
The action film, adapted from the Marvel comic book series, has already raked in $100.8 million (GBP50.4 million) in the U.S. in its first three days on release to become the first $100 million (GBP50 million) opener of the year (08).
The massive international haul leaves Jackie Chan and Jet Li's martial arts movie Forbidden Kingdom far behind at number two with $8 million (GBP4 million), and romantic comedy Made of Honor comes in at three with $6.5 million (GBP3.25 million).
Fool's Gold is in fourth place with $4.7 million (GBP2.35 million) and comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall made $4 million (GBP2 million) to round out the world's top five most popular movies outside the U.S.
The actor says he isn't "holding out for more money or doing anything like that".
The drama will be making its return to the streaming service in the near future.
