Officials in India are celebrating the runaway Oscars success of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE - the hit movie has been granted tax exemption after boosting tourism in the country.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced entertainment tax would be waived for the film - directed by Danny Boyle and set in Mumbai - because of its contribution to India's movie and holiday industry.
It came as tourism chiefs in Mumbai confirmed visitor numbers have rocketed by 25 per cent since Slumdog's release.
Dikshit says, "This film has earned a special distinction by claiming eight Oscar awards in different categories and hence created history in the field of Indian cinema."
