Violent action movie Immortals has narrowly beaten festive family film Arthur Christmas at the U.K. box office, taking in $3.4 million (£2.16 million) in ticket sales.
Immortals, starring new Superman Henry Cavill, debuted in the top spot over the weekend (11-13Nov11), making just $80,000 (£50,000) more than the animated Christmas movie.
Former number one The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn fell to third place with $2.4 million (£1.54 million), while Justin Timberlake's In Time and Tower Heist with Ben Stiller rounded out the top five with takings of (£915,584) and (£825,783) respectively.
