American mezzo-soprano LORRAINE HUNT LIEBERSON has died following a long battle with breast cancer. She was 52. The San Francisco-born opera star died in her Sante Fe, California home on 3 July (06). Despite studying the piano, violin and viola during her teenage years, Lieberson decided to sing exclusively when she was 26. Lieberson was forced to cancel her performance of MOZART's CLEMENZA DI TITO at Scotland's Edinburgh Festival in 2000 when she diagnosed with the disease. Lieberson is survived by her husband PETER, her parents, her brother STAN HUNT and sister SUSAN HUNT.
