Veteran country star HANK THOMPSON is battling inoperable lung cancer. The 82-year-old has been released from hospital and transferred to his home in Fort Worth, Texas, where he remains under hospice care. As a result of his illness, Thompson has called off the remainder of his U.S. tour and has officially retired. According to his spokesperson Tracy Pitcox, the singer, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1989, has been fighting lung cancer for some time. Pitcox says, "We are hoping for the best."
