Police called off a manhunt for suspect Vester Flanagan, 41, after he shot himself shortly after taking the lives of WDBJ7 journalist Alison Parker and videographer Adam Ward while they were filming in Moneta on Wednesday morning.

Reports suggest Flanagan was a disgruntled former employee of the TV news station, known as Bryce Williams.

Vicki Gardner, a local official who was being interviewed by Parker, has undergone emergency surgery for non-life-threatening injuries at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is in a stable condition.

The horrifying footage of the broadcast, which has been posted online, featured Parker interviewing Gardner on a balcony as several shots ring out. The screaming reporter attempted to flee as the camera fell to the ground.

Flanagan was tracked down by a state trooper shortly after the incident. She discovered the shooter in his car suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He died in the hospital.
