Nigerian singer Goldie Harvey has died just days after attending the Grammy Awards.
The R&B artist, 31, whose real name is Susan Filani, passed away suddenly on Thursday (14Feb13) at a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, according to a statement released by bosses at her record label, Kennis Music.
Harvey is said to have died after complaining of a severe headache shortly after returning to Nigeria from the U.S., where she had attended the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (10Feb13).
Kenny Ogungbe, head of Kennis Music, says, "With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star Goldie Harvey... We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away, the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career, and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her."
Harvey was a housemate on Big Brother Africa in September last year (12), where she met Kenyan rapper Prezzo. They began dating and were still in a relationship when Harvey died.
Following the tragedy, Prezzo took to his Facebook.com page to share a touching tribute poem with fans, which included the words, "Although we love you deeply, we could not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us... He only takes the best."
