Godzilla has stomped its way to the top of the North American box office chart with a monstrous $93.2 million (£58.25 million) haul in its opening weekend (16-18May14).
The monster movie remake, starring Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has destroyed the competition to score the second-largest debut of the year (14) so far, just behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which opened with $95 million (£59.38 million) in April (14).
Godzilla's box office figures outside North America were just as impressive, earning $103 million (£64.38 million) elsewhere for a total global take of $196.2 million (£122.63 million).
Meanwhile, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron's raunchy comedy Neighbors was a distant second in the North American chart with $26 million (£16.25 million), while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 came third with $17 million (£10.63 million).
Jon Hamm's new baseball drama Million Dollar Arm entered at number four and Cameron Diaz's The Other Woman rounded out the top five at five.
Rock legend Eric Clapton has admitted the era of the guitar may be ''over''.
Following his success with 'The Force Awakens', the director will close out the trilogy.
