Italian fashion designer GIANFRANCO FERRE has died in a Milan hospital following a brain haemorrhage. He was 62.
The former Christian Dior designer was admitted to the San Raffaele hospital on Friday (15Jun07), but died earlier this evening (17Jun07).
After graduating from Milan's Polytechnic Institute with a degree in architecture in 1969, Ferre started his fashion career the following year when he started designing accessories.
After launching his own fashion company in 1974, Ferre was offered the role as stylistic director at Christian Dior in 1989, where he worked until early 1997.
Ferre sold his Gianfranco Ferre label to It Holding in 2002, but remained creative director.
He is survived by his brother.
