Garret Hedlund has been offered the part of Captain Hook in 'PAN'.

The 'Inside Llewyn Davis' actor is set to play the evil pirate in the latest re-working of J.M. Barrie's children's classic Peter Pan, after beating 'Broad Walk Empire' star Jack Huston and Ezra Miller - who appeared alongside Emma Watson in 'The Perks of Being A Wall Flower' - to the coveted role.

According to the film - which is to be helmed by director Joe Wright - will look into the origins of Peter Pan, an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he goes into battle against the evil pirates and becomes a hero among the natives.

Fans of the novel will also get to see the back story of Hook, who served as Pan's close ally before turning evil.

Wright's offering will make a drastic change from past adaptations of the Peter Pan story which included 'Hook' starring Robin Williams in 1991 and Disney's 1953 animation classic.

The news comes after reports that Hugh Jackman will reportedly play the villainous Captain Blackbeard, while Academy-Award winner Javier Bardem is also tipped for the role.

'PAN' is set to hit the big-screen in 3D on June 26, 2015.
