An official criminal probe into the death of a contestant on French reality Tv series Survivor has been launched following months of preliminary investigations.

Gerald Babin, 25, suffered a cardiac arrest after shooting a tug-of-war challenge on location in Cambodia on 22 March (13) during the first day of work on the 16th season of the show, titled Koh-Lanta.

French prosecutors have now officially opened a manslaughter investigation and the case has been handed over to a judge to decided whether producers should be issued with indictments for criminal liability.

Dr. Thierry Costa, the physician who cleared Babin to compete in the show, died in an apparent suicide just days after the contestant passed away.
