Jean-Marc Vallee's French-language film C.R.A.Z.Y. was the big winner at Canada's Genie film awards Monday, winning 10 prizes, including best film. The film also won for best director, actor (Michel Coté), supporting actress (Danielle Proulx) and original screenplay. The 26th annual ceremonies, produced by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, also saw Seema Biswas awarded the best actress award for her performance in Deepa Mehta's Hindi-language Water, while Denis Bernard received the supporting actor award for L'Audition.
The '12 Years A Slave' director will receive the accolade at the London Film Festival in October.
Critics from all over the world were asked to name the best movie of the past 16 years.
