Sydes, who was best known for playing actress Thelma Ritter's son in holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street, passed away on Saturday (20Jun15) at his home in Springfield, Virginia.

He started his acting career at the age of five, appearing in the 1946 film Claudia and David, and went on to star in a number of films throughout the 1940s and 50s, including Cheaper by the Dozen, Sitting Pretty, Johnny Comes Flying Home and Gunsmoke.

Sydes also starred in several TV westerns, such as The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, Hopalong Cassidy and The Lone Ranger.

He quit showbusiness in the late 1950s and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving tours in Vietnam, Italy and Germany. He retired after two decades in the military, and in 1980, he started an auction business in Santa Cruz, California.
