Film location scout Dave Comer has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 58.
Comer passed away on Christmas Day (25Dec14), according to New Zealand's The Southland Times.
He began his career as a still photographer, whose work appeared in commercials and magazines.
Comer then moved into film and helped director Peter Jackson find locations to film his blockbuster The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises.
He is considered to be New Zealand's first film location scout.
