Movie executive and theatre producer Henry Guettel has died at the age of 85.
He passed away in Southampton, New York on Monday (07Oct13) after a battle with pneumonia.
Guettel began his career in the theatre and was a stage manager for a 1950 Broadway production of Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.
He went on to co-produce other Big Apple shows, including Sugar Babies and Romulus, and was in charge of touring stints for Broadway's The Sound of Music, Camelot and The Best Man.
Guettel later became the vice president of 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures film studios, before heading up the Theatre Development Fund, a non-profit performing arts organisation, from 1982.
He is survived by his wife Mary, the daughter of composer Richard Rodgers, and their children, including musician Adam Guettel.
