The FBI kept a top secret file on late comedian Bob Hope because of jokes he made about the US Government and FBI head J EDGAR HOOVER.
The file came to light following Hope's death last year (04).
Documents made available to American TV show CELEBRITY JUSTICE detail how Hoover ordered agents to keep a close eye on the funnyman because of jokes made at his expense, including claims he was a cross-dresser, which were eventually revealed to be true.
Hope and Hoover later became friends and Hope benefitted from FBI help when gun shots were heard at his Los Angeles mansion in 1970, and after the comedian received a series of death-threats.
