Star Wars: The Force Awakens is continuing to break box office barriers in North America by pulling in an additional $40.1 million (£26.7 million) on Monday (21Dec15), setting a new high for the first day of the week, after already scoring the biggest opening of all time with a $238 million (£159 million) opening weekend (18-20Dec15) haul. The previous Monday record was set by Spider-Man 2 in 2004, when the Tobey Maguire film raked in $27.2 million (£17 million) over America's Independence Day holiday.
