EAGLES guitarist Joe Walsh is funding his own anti-drug tour of New Zealand.

The rocker, a reformed heavy drinker and cocaine user, has joined forces with the country's anti-drug group MOKAI WHANAU ORA to urge locals to say no to all narcotics.

And when he heard the charity organisation was in financial strife, he agreed to fund his own tour.

Walsh, who has been sober for a decade, has stopped at schools to speak and perform and he played a free concert at the Parliament's Grand Hall in Wellington.

He says, "If I have come all this way and anything I say saves one life, then my trip has been worth it."
