Tv writer Edward Deblasio has died, aged 88.

The writer/producer passed away on 1 February (15) in Studio City, California following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

DeBlasio spent his early years in the U.S. Navy and also served as an entertainment journalist before turning to showbusiness.

He freelanced for a few years before writing The Man from Independence, the 1974 Tv biopic about former U.S. President Harry S. Truman.

He went on to become a writer on hit soap drama Dynasty for eight of the show's nine seasons, producing 109 episodes and writing 94, and he also co-wrote the 1991 Dynasty reunion Tv movie.

DeBlasio wrote and produced for In the Heat of the Night, the Tv show based on the film of the same name, and penned episodes of N.Y.P.D., Marcus Welby, M.D., Mission: Impossible, Bonanza and Ironside, among others.
