The season premiere of A&E's reality series Duck Dynasty drew 11.8 million viewers Wednesday night -- the largest audience ever for a nonfiction telecast on cable TV. The previous reality-show record of 10.6 million viewers was set by TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 in 2009, when the couple confirmed that they were splitting up. Duck Dynasty also follows the lives of a family -- the Robertsons of West Monroe, LA. In an interview with today's (Friday) New York Times, David McKillop, A&E's general manager and executive vice president, attributed the success of the series to the fact that The Robertsons represent a lot things we as Americans cherish ... self-made wealth, independence, three generations living together. Wednesday's episode topped ever program on broadcast TV, including NBC's America's Got Talent, which averaged 9.1 million viewers.
