Hip-hop mogul Dr. DrE hailed his protege KENDrICK LAMAR as a "class act" as he honoured the young rapper with a top prize at the 26th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday (27Jun13).
The B**ch, Don't Kill My Vibe hitmaker, 26, was presented with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (Ascap) Vanguard Award at the star-studded ceremony and Dre was full of praise for the Compton, California native.
Taking to the podium at the Beverly Hilton, the superproducer said, "I'm proud to know him. I'm proud to work with him and he is an important part of the new generation of hip-hop, and it's definitely continuing the legacy of Compton."
R&B superstar Usher was another big winner at the event - he received the prestigious Golden Note Award in recognition of his career success, while 2 Chainz and producer Noah '40' Shebib took home the Songwriter of the Year accolade.
Beyonce's Love on Top was named R&B or Hip-Hop Song of the Year, while Drake track The Motto, produced by Shebib, claimed Rap Song of the Year.
