Producers of Downton Abbey are in talks to make a feature length film of the hit period drama, according to actress Raquel Cassidy.

Cassidy, who plays lady's maid Phyllis Baxter in the show, has revealed there is "a possibility" of the aristocratic drama hitting the big screen in a cinema version.

She tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "There have been talks and there is definitely a possibility of a Downton film. There is real hope. It's been mentioned more than once and there's a lot of commercial and artistic interest. Stranger things have happened, so watch this space."

It is not the first time a Downton Abbey movie has been mooted - creator Julian Fellowes previously admitted it would be "quite fun" to make a film version of the show.

A Downton Abbey festive special is to air in the U.K. on Christmas Day (25Dec14).
