Soul icon Dobie Gray has died at the age of 71.
The Drift Away singer, real name Lawrence Darrow Brown, died on Tuesday (06Dec11), according to his official website. No further details were available as WENN went to press.
Gray, who was born in Houston, Texas, found fame with his 1965 single The 'In' Crowd and went on to enjoy a string of hits in the 1970s, including You Can Do It and Loving Arms.
He was known for recording across a range of genres including pop and country music, and also enjoyed a period as an actor, which included a two-and-a-half year stint in the stage production Hair in Los Angeles.
