ELIZABETH EMANUEL, the designer of tragic British royal DIANA, Princess Of Wales' wedding dress, has lost a court battle over the business rights to her name. Emanuel launched a bridalwear firm following Diana's July 1981 marriage to Prince Charles, but sold the business and trademark to another company in 1996 following financial difficulties. A few years later Emanuel stopped working for the other firm, but carried on using the trademark and sought legal action to reclaim her name. However, a European Union (EU) court in Brussels, Belgium ruled on Thursday (30MAR06) that she does not have the automatic right to reclaim her name, because she had sold her trademark "together with the business making the goods to which the mark relates".
