British conductor Christopher Hogwood has died at the age of 73.
Hogwood passed away in Cambridge, England on Wednesday (24Sep14).
In 1967, the conductor founded the Early Music Consort with musician David Munrow, and in 1973 he launched the Academy of Ancient Music.
He went on to lead several orchestras around the world, including the Berlin State Opera, Royal Opera Stockholm and Houston Grand Opera.
Hogwood was also the recipient of the Halle Handel Prize in 2008, and was appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1989.
