The musician passed away on Friday night (28Oct16) after going into septic shock from a liver abscess at Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, reports Variety.com.
Grant rose to fame alongside his brother, Richard Grant, after developing the Auricle Time Processor software, which is now used by fellow film and TV composers industry-wide, allowing them to create precise timings for their scores.
Their pioneering work earned them an Emmy in 1985 and an Oscar in 1986.
Ron Grant was also known for creating scores for hit film Casper and its animated series, The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper, while he worked on the cartoon series Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Tiny Toon Adventures, and The Plucky Duck Show.
