Boulez, also a pianist and writer, passed away at his home in Baden-Baden, Germany on Tuesday (05Jan16). The cause of his death was not specified.

He was chief conductor of the New York Philharmonic and BBC Symphony orchestras, and also worked with the London Symphony and other orchestras in Paris, France, Chicago, Illinois and Cleveland, Ohio.

Boulez also composed his own music and his recordings won more than 25 Grammy Awards.

Following news of his death, French President Francois Hollande said in a statement, "Pierre Boulez made French music shine throughout the world. As a composer and conductor, he always wanted to reflect on the ages."
