Chrissy Metz was down to her last 81 cents before she landed a life-changing role on hit TV show This Is Us.
Chrissy, who plays Kate Pearson on the hit NBC show, revealed she had less than a dollar in her purse when she learned she had been cast in the show.
The 36-year-old, who had finished a recurring role on American Horror Story: Freak Show, was struggling to land her next role and almost returned to Florida but was encouraged and supported by friends and family to keep following her dream. It was then that she landed the role in the critically-acclaimed drama which tells the story of a unique family, with several of them sharing the same birthday, as their paths cross and their life stories interwine.
“I almost moved back to Florida, but my mom said, ‘You can either be miserable here and not pursue your dreams, or you can be miserable in LA and at least pursue what you want,’” Chrissy shared in an interview with Glamour magazine.
Friends supported her by cooking her dinner and helping her to learn her lines when she didn't have the money for acting classes.
"I am so grateful that I had such an amazing support system, but when I booked This Is Us, I had 81 cents in my bank account. I could cry right now just thinking about it," she sighed.
The sacrifices have all paid off, as the brunette has been nominated for a Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her role as Kate, and This Is Us won favourite new TV drama at the People’s Choice Awards.
“Sometimes I cry on the way to the set still. There is something that happens when you are grateful: You continue to keep receiving blessings. So I will always be grateful," she smiled.
