Mourners wore their trousers backwards in tribute to Chris Kelly yesterday (09.05.13).
The Kris Kross star was laid to rest at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, a week after he was found unresponsive at his home, and several of those in attendance at the funeral, including the band's mentor Jermaine Dupri and rapper Da Brat, switched around their clothes, echoing the style the duo were famous for at the height of their fame in the early 1990s.
Chris' musical partner Chris Smith gave an emotional eulogy during the service.
He said: ''It's been like a struggle for me every day ... I know Chris is in heaven.
''He was a true friend ... I just wanna say I love you man ... and I'm gonna miss you dearly.
''My life... it ain't ever gonna be the same, but I just hope our legacy for hip-hop is never forgotten. I'm gonna do my part to make sure Chris' legacy will live on.''
The day before the service, friends and family paid their respects at a funeral home in Atlanta, where the body of the 34-year-old musician - who was known in the band as Daddy Mac - was displayed in an open casket.
According to website TMZ, mourners were greeted with an instrumental version of Kris Kross' biggest hit 'Jump', and a sign attached to the inside of the coffin lid bore the words ''Cause that's what I was born to do ...'', lyrics from the group's single 'Warm It Up'.
The casket was surrounded by photos of Kris Kross in their prime.
Chris is believed to have died from a drug overdose.
