Embattled Canadian radio personality Jian Ghomeshi has been slapped with three additional counts of sexual assault following his initial arrest in November (14).

The broadcaster surrendered to police in Toronto, Canada last year (14) and was booked on four counts of sexual assault and one of choking following the police investigation of nine separate allegations of rape and abuse.

He returned to court on Thursday (08Jan15), when he was formally hit with a trio of new sexual assault claims from three women, taking the total number of alleged victims to six. He faces a total of eight charges.

Ghomeshi's lawyer intends to enter a not guilty plea on behalf of his client, who must next appear before a judge on 4 February (15) for a preliminary hearing.

He is currently free on bail.

Ghomeshi, 47, was fired from his job at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (Cbc) in October (14).
