A petition to overturn new rules allowing officials in Canada to charge small gig venues for staging concerts by international acts has received almost 90,000 signatures.

From the beginning of August (13), venue bosses in the country are required to pay $275 (£183) as a "processing fee" for every overseas musician and crew member involved in a gig.

A petition was launched on Change.org in a bid to axe the new rule, and the number of protesters adding their name to the list had swollen to 86,913 on Friday (30Aug13).
