British TV personality MICHAEL BARRYMORE has been arrested on suspicion of murder and sexual assault in relation to the 2001 death of a man at his house party. The body of Stuart Lubbock, 31, was found in the swimming pool of Barrymore's home in Essex, England, in March 2001 and a post-mortem revealed he had suffered severe internal injuries - suggesting he was sexually assaulted. There were also high levels of alcohol, cocaine and ecstasy found in his bloodstream. Barrymore, 55, was arrested at his London home at 9am this morning (14Jun07). Two other men have also been arrested in connection with Lubbock's murder. The arrests come one year after police launched a new investigation into Lubbock's death, following the open verdict recorded by the original inquiry in 2002. A spokesperson for Essex police says, "We had a review done last year as a matter of routine looking at all unexplained cases and that has resulted in the action today. "The officers would have to have grounds to arrest someone. The review will have gone over all the statements and every piece of forensic evidence and would have identified any new forensic opportunity, if there are any." "The family of Stuart Lubbock have been informed of the arrests and will be provided with any family liaison support that is required, as has been the case since Stuart died in 2001. As proceedings are now active we will not be making any further statements until there is any change to the current status."
