British jazz trumpeter PETER 'MICK' MULLIGAN died on Wednesday (20DEC06) after a battle with illness. He was 78. Mulligan and vocalist GEORGE MELLY formed a long-lasting musical partnership in the 1950s, and dazzled audiences with the MAGNOLIA JAZZ BAND. Mulligan was friends with jazz greats Louis Armstrong, EDDIE CONDON and WILD BILL DAVISON. He is survived by second wife TESSA HOWARD, four children and three stepchildren.
