Brazilian filmmaker Oscar Maron Filho has died after suffering a heart attack at an Indian film festival on Sunday (27Nov11).
Filho was rushed to a local hospital for treatment but passed away. He was 56.
The star was promoting his documentary feature Mario Filho - The Creators of Crown, about the Brazilian sports journalist of the same name, at the 42nd International Film Festival of India when he suffered the fatal attack, and all of the day's activities at the event were subsequently cancelled. A moment of silence was later held to honour Filho.
A statement from festival organisers reads, "We are deeply sad by (sic) the sudden demise of (Filho), who suffered a cardiac arrest this noon while interacting with the audience at the Open Forum. Despite giving him Cpr by the medicos at Iffi he did not respond. The Doctors at Gmc Hospital declared his death... Rip Mr. Oscar Maron Filho."
Filho's body will be flown back to Brazil on Wednesday (30Nov11), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
'Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing)' arrives in April.
The two awards have made for a great 72nd birthday present for the country music icon.
