Influential Brazilian pop music composer MOACIR SANTOS has died. He was 82. Santos died on 6 August (06) at an assisted living facility in Pasadena, California, following complications from a stroke he suffered several years ago. Santos rose from poverty in Brazil to reach the peak of his career in the mid-1960s when he released the well-received album COISAS, which blended western music with traditional Brazilian sounds. Santos is survived by his wife, CLEONICE, a son, MOACIR JR, and three grandchildren.
