Veteran Indian actress Suchitra Sen has died, aged 82.
The screen star passed away in Calcutta, India on Friday (17Jan14) after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Her death comes three weeks after she was admitted to a hospital suffering from a respiratory tract infection.
Sen began her acting career in the 1950s, and found fame appearing in a number of Bengali romantic dramas with Uttam Kumar throughout the 1960s and the 1970s.
She later acted in a number of Bollywood films, such as Devdas and Aandhi, but quit the movie business in 1978 and retired from public life. Sen was rarely seen out in public after she quit acting.
She is survived by her actress daughter Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters, Riya and Raima Sen, who are also actresses.
The actor plays the titular hero in the forthcoming adaptation.
