Bollywood star VIVEK OBEROI has been hailed a hero for saving an Indian village devastated by last month's (26DEC04) Asian tsunami - at the same time as filming his latest movie.
Oberoi is one of India's biggest celebrities so used his fame to get the small fishing village of Thevanampattinam shelter, supplies and renovation work without the endless paperwork that hinders most relief efforts.
The YUVA star was so disturbed by the Indian Ocean disaster he set up charity PROJECT HOPE and is dedicating his time shuttling between Bombay, where he is shooting his next film, and the shanty village he's rescued from ruin.
He says, "I saw the images on TV and realised I had to do something. I was overwhelmed."12/01/2005 14:16
