LATEST: Actress MEERA has asked authorities in her native Pakistan for protection because she's received death threats after she appeared to kiss a co-star in a Bollywood movie.
The beautiful star has already been fined by the Pakistani government for her perceived transgression of Islamic moral values - even though she denies actually touching lips with NAZAR co-star ASHMIT PATEL.
But last week (ends25FEB05) a Pakistan-based newspaper published pictures showing the Bollywood stars allegedly locking lips in the movie, which is due for release later this year (05).
Meera says, "I would like to convey to the government of Pakistan through the media that I want protection from extremists here who have threatened my life.
"I want protection. I want protection for me, my family. I want President Pervez Musharraf to ensure the safety of my family."
Meera's father, SARWAR, tries to play down the situation, "Some people came but we don't want to make an issue out of it."
Nazar will not be released in Pakistan - no Indian film has been screened in the staunchly Muslim nation since the 1965 Indian-Pakistan War.02/03/2005 17:56
