Former BOHSE ONKELZ frontman KEVIN RUSSELL has been jailed for seriously injuring two people in a drug-fuelled hit-and-run car crash in 2009.
The singer, who rose to fame in the 1980s with the German rock group, was found guilty of getting behind the wheel while under the influence of cocaine and methadone on New Year's Eve (31Dec09) and slamming into another car at more than 100 miles-per-hour (160 kilometre-per-hour).
Two men were seriously injured in the accident.
Russell was convicted of negligent bodily harm, reckless driving and fleeing the scene of an accident, and was sentenced to 27 months in prison at a court hearing in Frankfurt, Germany on Monday (04Oct10).
His driving licence was also revoked for four years.
A statement from Russell's former bandmates, posted on the group's website, reads, "The Kevin who sits in the dock today is no longer the Kevin with whom we all went through thick and thin together in the past. We had hoped Kevin would personally make a stand on this incident... Our thoughts remain with the victims."
