MARY J. BLIGE turned the New York skyline shades of purple, yellow and white on Wednesday (16Sep09) when she lit up the city's Empire State Building in the colours of her women's charity.
The hip-hop/soul superstar and record executive Steve Stoute founded the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now (F.F.A.W.N.), an organisation which helps to boost women's confidence and acquire the skills needed to achieve their full potential.
Blige is also calling on shoppers in the Big Apple to head to the luxury Gucci store on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue on Wednesday to support Gucci for F.F.A.W.N. Day, when the flagship store will donate 10 per cent of the day's profits to the charity.
In a message to fans on her Twitter.com blog, Blige says, "Today is Gucci for FFAWN Day. If you are in NY, come down and help us celebrate the Rise of Women again! It is our time Ladys (sic)! Let's go!!"
The actor says he isn't "holding out for more money or doing anything like that".
The drama will be making its return to the streaming service in the near future.
