Basketball star Jerome Kersey has passed away at the age of 52.
The former National Basketball Association (Nba) player died on Wednesday (18Feb15) at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center in Oregon, although the cause of death was unknown as Wenn went to press.
Kersey played for the Portland Trail Blazers for 11 seasons before his retirement in 2001, and in 2008 he was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen said in a statement, "Today we lost an incredible person and one of the most beloved players to ever wear a Trail Blazers uniform. It's a terrible loss."
Team President Neil Olshey adds, "Jerome was an incredible influence on our players as a model for life after basketball. He set the bar extremely high with his long-lasting influence in this community."
