Australian rocker Jason Curley has died, aged 42.
The Tumbleweed bassist passed away on Monday (25Aug14) at his home in Wollongong, Australia. No more details about his death were available as Wenn went to press, but his bandmates have described his passing as sudden and unexpected.
A statement posted on the group's Facebook.com page reads, "It is with deep sadness that we inform everyone of a great loss in the Tumbleweed family, our brother, friend and bass player Jay Curley passed away suddenly in his home yesterday.
"We are still shocked by the news of his death. We hope that people will remember him for his music, his big heart and his total dedication to rock and roll."
His bandmate, guitarist Paul Hausmeister, adds, "Long hair, big smile, tattoos on the outside with a warm, loving, gentle soul on the inside... He has inspired countless musicians over the last 30 years and will continue in the future. The Australian rock 'n' roll community has lost a great musician and a great bloke. We have lost a great mate."
Curley shot to fame in the 1990s with the rock group, best known for supporting Nirvana on tour in 1992, but he left in 1999.
He later rejoined Tumbleweed when the original line-up reunited in 2009. His brother, Lenny Curley, is a guitarist in the band.
The group was due to perform at a festival in Sydney, Australia on 20 September (14).
