Beloved British actor Nigel Davenport has died, aged 85.
The Chariots of Fire star passed away on Friday (25Oct13), according to multiple reports, but details of his death have not been revealed.
Davenport's film and Tv career spanned over five decades and he also appeared in A Man for All Seasons, Living Free, The Island of Dr. Moreau and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.
But he's perhaps best remembered for his portrayal Lord Birkenhead in 1981's Chariots of Fire (1981).
He also appeared on British Tv in hit series The Adventures of Robin Hood, Howards’ Way and The Saint.
Davenport was among the founders of the English Stage Company at the Royal Court theatre, and he served as president of acting union British Actors’ Equity Association in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
He is the father of Pirates of the Caribbean star Jack Davenport.
