A 30th anniversary edition of Stephen Spielberg's E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in October will give the FBI guys trying to hunt down the alien and his young friends the guns that appeared in the 1982 original but were digitally converted into walkie-talkies in the 2002 rerelease, New York magazine's Vulture blog reported today (Monday). The article recalled that Spielberg had confessed last fall "For myself, I tried [changing a film] once and lived to regret it. Not because of fan outrage, but because I was disappointed in myself. I got overly sensitive to [some of the reaction] to E.T., and I thought if technology evolved, [I might go in and change some things]...it was OK for a while, but I realized what I had done was I had robbed people who loved E.T. of their memories of E.T." The guns are in fact visible in the recently released trailer.
