Action sequel 300: Rise Of An Empire crushed The Lego Movie to land the top spot at the U.K. box office.

The bloody fictionalised re-telling of the clash between Greek and Persian armies at the Battle of Salamis, starring Eva Green and Lena Headey, scooped $4.4 million (£2.8 million) during its opening weekend in the U.K., crushing the previous top grossing film The Lego Movie which took $2.6 million (£1.6 million).

Another new entry, Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, claimed the number three spot with $2.5 million (£1.53 millon) in takings while last week's number two, Liam Neeson's mid-air thriller Non-Stop, fell two places to fourth taking $2.4 million (£1.5 million).

Ice Cube's buddy cop comedy Ride Along also fell two places, falling from third to fifth to round out this week's top five with takings of $1.3 million (£823,312).
