iLiKETRAiNS Spencer Perceval Single

Just think people, if you'd paid attention and stayed focused during those history lessons at school this could have been you. Instead, most of us decided that monologues about nineteenth century prime ministers meant long afternoons looking out the window daydreaming about mixed games of rounders during PE.

Maybe they didn't play sports in Leeds, or if they did this lot were excluded, because iLiKETRAiNS have honed their craft to as near perfection as is possible for a murder-fixated post-rock combo.

Such is their reputation; 'Spencer Perceval' is pretty much everything and more that we've come to expect from iLiKETRAiNS. A nine minute epic in total, it starts off like the chimes of a funeral march before building amidst a cascade of brooding intensity, Dave Martin's monotone "I am murdered." refrain both haunting and mesmerising until the song literally explodes into a musical fireworks display in the final third.

Already cult heroes to an ever- increasing legion of TRAiNspotters, whether this single will give them their first real taste of commercial success remains to be seen, but with recording well under way for their first proper long player later this year, 'Spencer Perceval' is a mighty starter that just raises anticipation levels for the album that one notch higher.

9/10
