Mira Sorvino Says She Was "Gagged With A Condom" During Audition At Age 16

Mira Sorvino

Mira Sorvino has claimed that she was once gagged with a condom by a casting director during an audition when she was aged just 16.

The 50 year old Oscar-winner said in a new interview that the incident happened when she was trying out for a horror movie, and that she was tied to a chair and her arm was bruised.

“I was 16 years old, and then he gagged me,” she said during a podcast for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. “At the end he takes the gag out of my mouth and he said 'sorry for the prophylactic'. So he had gagged me with a condom. It was so inappropriate and what the heck was a casting director doing with a condom in his pocket in an audition?”

The 78-year-old actor told TMZ just how 'furious' he was when he found out that Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed Mira in a hotel room in the early 1990s, around the time that she was shooting 'Mighty Aphrodite'. Reporters asked for his comment on suggestions that she was 'blackballed' in Hollywood after refusing his advances.

Good

Based on an astonishing true survival story, this film is subtitled "Miracle on the Mountain", so it can't help but be an inspirational movie that tugs on the heartstrings. But it's a shame that's all filmmaker Scott Waugh (Need for Speed) aims for here. And despite the stunning settings, his limited approach leaves this feeling like little more than a TV movie of the week. Still, it's a story worth telling.

The film is based on the memoir by Eric LeMarque (played by Josh Hartnett), who when the story starts is trying to get his life back on track while he's kicking a drug habit. Waiting for his day in court, he decides to blow off some steam on the slopes, so heads up to do some off-piste snowboarding. Then a sudden whiteout leaves him lost in an unfamiliar snow-buried wilderness, chased by wolves. Over the next eight days, he struggles to find a way out. Meanwhile, his mother (Mira Sorvino) gets in touch with a ski patrol officer (Sarah Dumont) to organise a search.

Between Strangers Review

Very Good
Between Strangers? Hmmm, sounds like a softcore porn movie. Turns out it's a weepy melodrama starring a generation-bounding collection of movie stars.

Ever since Short Cuts won accolades, we get a yearly version of this movie, a sometimes thoughtful collection of stories, none large enough to stand alone as a feature film, some to slight to merit any attention at all. Between Strangers mitigates this problem by focusing on the stories of three women, all wrestling with past mistakes or old regrets.

Wisegirls Review

Weak
Mariah Carey gives us another peek at some of the magic we saw in Glitter here in Wisegirls, a ridiculous look at three waitresses (Carey, Mira Sorvino, and Melora Walters) working in a New York Italian restaurant. Despite all the melodrama (Sorvino's got a dead boyfriend, and so on, and so on) these wisegirls are at least not totally horrific -- except, surprisingly, for Walters, who looks truly haggard here. Don't get me wrong, the movie is crap, but at least I didn't kill myself while I was watching it.

The Replacement Killers Review

Good
Antoine Fuqua tries to blend Hong Kong action fare with gritty urban sensibilities in The Replacement Killers, to mixed effect. Surprisingly, Mira Sorvino holds her own as an unlikely action star, and the shots of her ass don't hurt matters.
