Molly's Game Trailer

To most of the world, Molly Bloom is a beautiful young skiing extraordinaire, but behind closed doors she is a serious poker prodigy. She has been running an exclusive, underground gambling club in a luxury suite for ten years with a clientele that includes the likes of Hollywoo's biggest superstars, celebrity athletes, business tycoons and even the Russian mob. Unfortunately for her, the latter lands her in the sights of the FBI who raid her poker game one late night and arrest her for operating an illegal gambling business. The only person she can talk to now is her defence lawyer Charlie Jaffrey, but even he takes some convincing to change his perspective on this shrewd and uncompromising woman. And who is really going to believe that she isn't in cahoots with the mob?

Ryan Reynolds Goes From Deadpool To Just Dead In 'Criminal'

Ryan Reynolds Kevin Costner

Ryan Reynolds goes from Deadpool to Dead Operative in his new crime thriller 'Criminal', starring Kevin Costner. While he's not the subject of the medical experiment this time (and doesn't survive into much of the movie), he plays a CIA agent whose mind is lost in the head of a psychotic killer.

Jericho Stewart (Kevin Costner) is one of the most dangerous criminals America has ever seen, with an absolute lack of empathy and no regards for the consequences of his actions. In other words, he is the definition of a psychopath. Thus, that makes him the perfect candidate for a secret government operation - literally. He is forced to take part in one neuroscientist's (Tommy Lee Jones) experiment to transplant the mind of a respected CIA agent (Ryan Reynolds) who is now deceased into his own mind, in a bid to uncover vital information from the agent Bill Pope's incomplete mission.

Errol Flynn Kevin Costner Guy Ritchie Russell Crowe

Could ‘Robin Hood’ be the next iconic character to have his history explored with an edgy origins movie? Well it looks likely, as Deadline reports that studio Lionsgate has acquired the script for Joby Harold’s Robin Hood: Origins, which gives a different take on the famed character.

Kevin CostnerKevin Costner is one of the many actors to have portrayed Robin Hood on the big screen

While little is known about the script, Deadline writes that Harold's story is said to be 'an edgier take on the fabled do-gooder who stole from the rich and gave to the poor.’ The film will be produced by Appian Way, alongside Harold and Tory Tunnell through their Safehouse Pictures banner.

Black Or White Trailer

When a young girl's mother dies in childbirth, she is sent to live with her grandparents. After her grandmother dies in a car accident, Elliot Anderson (Kevin Costner) takes on the responsibility of raising her by himself. When his granddaughter's African American grandmother Rowena (Octavia Spencer) arrives to tell him that they should share custody, Elliot is reluctant to the point of hostility. Despite his granddaughter having more family living in the South - including her drug-addicted father - Elliot furiously battles for sole custody, stating that his fight is not born of racial hatred, but due to the loss of both his wife and daughter making his granddaughter the only thing he has left in the world.

McFarland USA Trailer

In 1987, Jim White (Kevin Costner) moved to McFarland in the San Joaquin Valley, Kern County, California, and what he found there shocked him. The city appeared to be a predominately Latino ghetto of sorts, where the children chose not to follow his instructions in class and caused him no end of grief. That was, until White noticed the exceptional running skills of the children in his class. With no cross-country team in the city and no one qualified to coach it, White assembled seven of the best runners and pushed them to take a chance and become great.

'Draft Day' Tries To Break Out Of Sports-Movie Ghetto

Kevin Costner

American sports films have a notoriously difficult time travelling abroad, mainly because no one else on earth cares quite as much about US baseball, basketball and football. And yet, these movies keep coming out, and being released abroad in the hopes that they might catch on.

It happens now and then, generally when a film has a larger theme that takes over from the sport focus. Baseball may have been the setting for 'Field of Dreams', 'Bull Durham' and 'Moneyball', but all three films benefitted from much deeper ideas and strong performances. The first two also relied heavily on the charms of Kevin Costner, who has made saving sports movies a bit of a specialty. See also cycling ('American Flyers'), golf ('Tin Cup'), boxing ('Play it to the Bone') and more baseball ('For the Love of the Game').

Draft Day Review

OK

Essentially this year's Moneyball, but set in American football rather than baseball, this fast-paced drama is brightly made with an especially strong cast. But only die-hard fans will be able to drum up much interest in the plot, which is played as if it's the most important thing on earth. This insular approach is seriously alienating for audience members with even the slightest sense of perspective about life. Thankfully, the actors are likeable and entertaining.

It's set over the 12 hours leading up to the NFL draft, when teams select the top players from university teams. In Cleveland, manager Sonny (Kevin Costner) is struggling to hang on to his job, arguing with Coach Penn (Denis Leary) about who should be the first pick. And when he swaps with another team for the top selection, the team owner (Frank Langella) pressures Sonny to take the most highly desired player in the field (Josh Pence). But Sonny has his doubts, and amid backroom dealings and frantic last-minute swaps, he also looks at another promising player (Chadwick Boseman) while making sure the team's current quarterback (Tom Welling) is up to his job. Meanwhile, Sonny and the team's financial manager Ali (Jennifer Garner) are in a secret relationship and have just found out that they're pregnant.

Most of this takes place during phone calls, but director Ivan Reitman manages to make this visually intriguing using whizzy split-screen trickery. And while Garner's character feels utterly irrelevant, like a distraction to the main football plot , she adds the badly needed human interest element, as do two other actresses in smaller roles: Ellen Burstyn and Rosanna Arquette as Sonny's mother and ex-wife, respectively. There are also strong cameos from the likes of Sean Combs as a high-powered agent and Sam Elliot as a sporting veteran. And it's all anchored effortlessly by Costner's affable charm, providing resonance in Sonny's attempt to play a long game while being pushed to make the flashier decisions.
