Biography

Abigail Breslin (born 14.4.1996)
Abigail Breslin rose to fame as a child actress, featuring in a number of popular Hollywood films, such as Little Miss Sunshine and Signs.

Childhood: Abigail Breslin was born in New York, to Kim and Michael. Her mother works as Abigail's manager and her father is a telecoms expert. She has two older brothers, Ryan and Spencer. They are also actors.

Career: Abigail Breslin started acting at the age of three, when she appeared in an advert for Toys 'R' Us. Her debut film role came in 2002, when she landed a role in Signs, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The movie also starred Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix, as well as Rory Culkin.

In 1994, Breslin featured in Raising Helen, along with her brother Spencer (they played brother and sister in the film). The comedy-drama film also starred Kate Hudson, Joan Cusack and Hayden Panettiere, but was poorly received by the critics.

Breslin's next role was in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. The child star went on to receive much better reviews for her performance in Keane, an independent film with a limited cinema release.

In 2006, Abigail Breslin starred alongside Steve Carell, Toni Collette and Greg Kinnear in the cult hit Little Miss Sunshine. It propelled her to fame and proved to be her breakthrough career move. Her performance was so highly praised that Breslin became the fourth youngest star to be nominated for that year's Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The award eventually went to Jennifer Hudson but Abigail co-presented at the awards ceremony with Jaden Smith.

The following year, she made her stage debut in Right You Are (If You Think You Are), at the Guggenheim Museum. The play also starred Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett and Peter Sarsgaard.

In the romantic comedy No Reservations, Breslin played the niece of Catherine Zeta-Jones's character. Although the film received largely negative reviews, it was a huge commercial success. Later that year, she also starred in Definitely Maybe, opposite Ryan Reynolds.

2008 saw Breslin appear in Nim's Island, along with Jodie Foster, playing the role of Nim Rusoe. She also featured in Kim Mittredge: An American Girl, playing the title role. Following this was 2009's My Sister's Keeper, in which she played the role of Anna Fitzgerald. Dakota Fanning was originally pegged to play the role but refused to shave her head to portray the young girl suffering from leukaemia.

Taking on a less serious role, Breslin went on to appear in Zombieland, a horror comedy. Zombieland also starred Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg.

Returning to the stage, Abigail Breslin was then selected to play the part of the author and activist Helen Keller, in the Broadway production of The Miracle Worker.

Abigail Breslin's next film, Janie Jones saw her play the role of a teenager, abandoned by her former-groupie mother (played by Elisabeth Shue) and tracks down her father, a fading rock star (played by Alessandro Nivola).

Having a keen interest in music, Abigail Breslin has also started a band, with her friend Cassidy Reiff, called CABB.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Says 'Maggie' Is Very Much A 'Human' Zombie Movie

Arnold Schwarzenegger Abigail Breslin

Arnold Schwarzenegger's first zombie movie 'Maggie' has almost arrived in the UK, and while we might be more than used to the living dead stalking our screens (both big and small), the star insists that this new movie is different in that it takes a much more 'human' approach to the apocalyptic disaster.

Zombie movies like 'World War Z', '28 Days Later', 'Dawn Of The Dead' and indeed any others you can probably think of on the spot have a habit of focusing on the survivors. Viewers are gripped by the bloody and increasingly creative methods of walking dead destruction and no-one delves into the deeper fact that these 'creatures' were actually once very much human. Though when the protagonist is holding a shotgun to their head, it's the last thing you want to think about.

Arnold Schwarzenegger re-vamps the zombie genre with a touching horror drama based on the unconditional love between a father and daughter during a time of global crisis. 'Maggie' is the directorial feature debut of designer Henry Hobson.

It goes without saying that the zombie genre is getting a bit tired. Various films in recent years have attempted to shake things up a bit; the 'zom-com' was created with the likes of 'Warm Bodies' and 'Life After Beth', and Brad Pitt took the whole idea to its maximum with his chilling film adaptation of 'World War Z'. However, we think 'Maggie', produced by and starring 'The Terminator' himself, really goes that extra mile as it hones in on the development of a disease in one young girl, and explores the effect it has on her family.

August: Osage County Review

Extraordinary

Tracy Letts adapts his own prize-winning play into a blistering depiction of one of cinema's most dysfunctional families ever. It's still rather theatrical, throwing a mob of top actors into a room for what feels like a fight to the death, but it's so well written and so beautifully observed by the actors that we can't look away. And of course Meryl Streep walks off with the show.

Everything kicks off when Beverly Weston (Shepard) goes missing, leaving his ruthlessly straight-talking, pill-popping wife Violet (Streep) to assemble the family in their rambling Oklahoma home. They have three equally feisty daughters: Barbara (Roberts) is a tightly wound bundle of anger with an estranged husband (McGregor) and surly teen daughter (Breslin) in tow; Karen (Lewis) is a free-spirited floater with yet another random boyfriend (Mulroney); and Ivy (Nicholson) is fed up with being the dutiful daughter who stayed close to home. Also on hand is Violet's sister Mattie Fae (Martindale), whose husband (Cooper) is the family patriarch now that Beverly is gone, which means their son (Cumberbatch) feels even more useless than normal.

What plot there is centres on skeletons rattling out of closets and relationships imploding spectacularly. The film is a series of brutally intense encounters between people who probably still love each other in vaguely undefined ways and express it through bitter bursts of witty cruelty. Streep has the meatiest role as the imperious Violet, who knows a lot more than she's letting on. And her chief rival is Barbara, played with unnerving intensity by Roberts. The only person we even remotely like is Mattie Fae, and the always-superb Martindale finds all kinds of layers in the character.
