New York Fashion Week has started with the city's Mayor Bloomberg kicking off the festivities.

The prestigious event will see shows from the likes of Helmut Lang, Vena Cava, Jason Wu, Rag & Bone, Alexander Wang and Z Spoke by Zac Posen at the Lincoln Center and Bloomberg says it will be a week to remember.

He said: "The capital of fashion is right here in Manhattan."

Victoria Beckham, Diane Von Furstenberg, Herve Leger, Halston and Marc Jacobs will all show their latest collections while Calvin Klein Collection and Oscar De La Renta will round up proceedings next Wednesday (15.09.10).

As well as the usual designers, for the first time at New York Fashion Week, there will be a runway show featuring plus-size models as one of the show's bosses, Nancy Le Winter, says the industry is finally accepting larger Women want to be fashionable as well.

High-profile guests who are expected at the shows included tennis aces Serena Williams and Roger Federer, Blake Lively and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
